Arkeomedya tarafından hazırlanan Arkeoloji Sohbetlerinin 36. Bölümünde konuğumuz Dr.Öğr.Üyesi Şebnem Uzunarslan.  ”1760 Pompeii ve Herculaneum Kazılarından Saray Mekanlarına Yansımalar” adlı semineri Arkeomedya Youtube kanalından izleyebilirsiniz.

Seminerin giriş bölümünde Pompei ve Herculaneum’da yaşananlar hatırlatılıyor ve bölgedeki tahribatın boyutları ortaya konuluyor.  Bölgenin 1748’deki keşfi ve özellikle 1760 yılında başlayan kazılar olmak üzere, dünden bugüne devam eden Pompei kazılarında edinilen bulgular yorumlanıyor ve Roma’daki yaşama dair çıkarımlar yapılıyor.

Bir yandan Roma Mimarisindeki Etrüsk, Mısır ve Antik Yunan etkilerine değinilirken, bir yandan da Roma’da mekan algısındaki farklılıklar masaya yatırılıyor. Döneme dair haritalar ve çizimlerin yanı sıra, buluntu ve kalıntıların fotoğraflarına da yer verilen seminer, Şebnem Uzunarslan’ın açıklamaları ile birlikte oldukça açık bir anlatıma kavuşuyor.

Seminerde; 1760’daki kazılara İngiliz ve Fransız arkeolog ve mimarların katılımı ile başlayan etkileşim ve mimarideki değişimin yanı sıra James Stuart tarafından tasarlanan Spencer House örneği üzerinden Roma mimarisinin iç mekanda yansımalarına tanıklık edebilir, Robert Adam’ın mimari yaklaşımı ve neo-klasik mimarinin inceliklerini öğrenebilirsiniz.  Bu bağlamda, Pompeii kazılarının mimariye etkilerini inceleme şansı edinebilirsiniz.  

18.yy da malzeme ve işçilikteki gelişmeler ile beraber Roma çizgilerinin mekânlarda daha belirgin kullanımını örnekler üzerinden kavrayabilir; mimari akımları tanıma olanağı bulabilir; mimarinin eklektik ve etkileşimsel yapısı hakkında bakış açınızı geliştirebilirsiniz.

In the 36th episode of Archeology Conservations, our guest is Dr.Lecturer Şebnem Uzunarslan. You can watch the seminar titled ‘Reflections From 1760 Pompeii and Herculaneum Excavations To Palace Sites’ on the Arkeomedya Youtube channel.

In the introductory section of the seminar, the events in Pompei and Herculaneum are reminded and the extent of the destruction in the region is revealed. The discovery of the region in 1748 and especially from the excavations began in 1760, all findings in Pompei excavations from that time to the present are commentated and conclusions are made on the life in Ancient Rome.

On one hand, the influences of Etruscan, Egyptian and Ancient Greek on Roman architecture are mentioned, on the other hand, differences in the perception of space in the Roman Empire are discussed in detail. In addition to the maps and drawings, the seminar, which includes the photographs of finds and ruins too, provides a better understanding of the explanations by Şebnem Uzunarslan.

In the seminar, aside from the interaction and changes in architecture after the participations of the English and French archeologists and architects in the excavations, you can witness the reflections of Roman architecture features through the Spencer House example; learn the details of neo-classical architecture and Robert Adam’s architectural approach. In this sense, you can have the chance to examine the effects of Pompei excavations on architecture.

You can comprehend the use of Roman-style more apparent in spaces with the advancements of material and craftsmanship in the 18th century through the examples;  find the opportunity to get familiar with architectural movements and develop a perspective over the eclectic and interactional structure of architecture.
